Wise Guys

Wise Guys
Unlocking Hidden Wisdom From The Men Around You

Author:  Kent Evans
Publisher:  City On A Hill
Pages:  164
Audience:  Adult Men

Kent Evans delivers a wonderful message to men in Wise Guys.  Wise Guys is a book that will enrich and minister to all men.  Kent Evans speaks about the importance of wisdom and how men can learn and grow from one another.  Mr. Evans speaks realistically of his own experiences and imparts some of the advice he has been given over the years.  Mr. Evans writes as if he is sitting across from you having a conversation.

While reading this book I was struck by the topics that Mr. Evans highlighted for example, grace, cynicism, encouragement, knowing yourself, etc., and how these topics are so important to call speak about.  I believe that younger and older men alike would get so much positive reinforcement from this book.

I would recommend this book because it is filled with a lot of wisdom, humor and growth.

Bearing Witness: Stories of Martyrdom and Costly Discipleship

Bearing Witness:  Stories of Martyrdom and Costly Discipleship

Edited by:  Charles E. Moore & Timothy Keiderling
Publisher:  Plough Publishing House
Pages:  226
Audience:  Adults

Bearing Witness is a collection of true stories of men and women who gave witness to Jesus Christ and His teachings.  Each account tells of an individual that spread the Word of Jesus’s teachings in the face of persecution and death.  This book is powerful and will break your heart.  The descriptions of these brave individuals and what transpires in their lives can be quite graphic.  However, their stories are inspirational in that they show us how to live faithful lives; lives dedicated to Christ.

While I read this book, I found myself truly inspired to know that there were Christians who made it their mission to live like Christ and be guided by that love and faith to reach out to others.  Their lives embody what it means to be a true follower of Christ and to love others more than oneself.

None Like Him

None Like Him
10 Ways God Is Different From Us (and why that’s a good thing)

Author:  Jen Wilkin
Publisher:  Crossway
Pages:  176
Audience:  Adult Women
Genre:  Christian Living

Jen Wilkin’s book, None Like Him, seeks to help Christian women to understand who God truly is, not the version of Him that our limited understanding can create Him to be.  The reality is that God is nothing like you or me.  God is our ultimate provider, unchanging, knowable, powerful, loving , and much, much more.  Ms. Wilkins wants us to know God and create true and deep relationship with Him.

I enjoyed reading None Like Him.  Ms. Wilkins writes in such a way that truly focused on the attributes of God and how our relationship with Him grows within these attributes.  I found the verses for meditation and reflection questions to be great in exploring the personal relationship you have with God.

I would highly recommend this book to every Christian woman who seeks to have a deeper understanding and relationship with God.
