Parenting by Paul Tripp Book Review

Parenting:  14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family

Author:  Paul David Tripp
Publisher:  Crossway
Pages:  224
Audience:  Parents
Genre:  Parenting

Parenting:  14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family is a book written by Paul Tripp encouraging parents to embrace their calling as parents and what that calling truly means.  The 14 principles Mr. Tripp writes about are calling, law, grace, inability, identity, process, lost, character, false gods, authority, control, foolishness, rest, and mercy.  Mr. Tripp speaks of parents as being ambassador of their children.  He writes that parents are not owners of their children; however, they are stewards of their children’s lives.  Mr. Tripp states that God created Godly parents to be His tools in order to create and guide children to be conscious of God and create a relationship with Him.

One statement that I thought was so important and is so true that Mr. Tripp mentions is that God is with every parent.  I found this to be very poignant because at times parenting can feel lonely and knowing that God is with you can be reassuring.  God has equipped parents with His love and His Word on their parenting journeys.

I would recommend this book to all parents and parents-to-be.  This book will encourage and support your parenting journey.  This book is a wonderful reminder of how faithful God is and how much He loves us and our children.

Someone Like You Review

Someone Like You

Author:  Victoria Bylin
Publisher:  Bethany House
Pages:  336
Audience:  Women
Genre:  Fiction/Contemporary Romance

Someone Like You is a beautiful story told of two people, Julia Dare and Zeke Monroe who meet again after their relationship came to an end in college.  Julia Dare is a new Christian with a four year old son, Max.  Julia is dealing with many conflicts in her life and leans on her newfound faith to guide her through the challenges she faces.

Zeke Morgan, is the manager of Caliente Springs in California.  Zeke is also going through his fair share of struggles.  Zeke, who has been a Christian for most of his life, is severely struggling with his faith and finding his way back.  Zeke is also struggling to keep Caliente Springs from getting sold due to lack of business.  One fine day, Julia has an assignment that involves her going to Caliente Springs and Zeke and Julia meet again.  Together these two discover many things about themselves, their faith, and each other.

I can honestly say that this has been one of my favorite books of this year.  Victoria Bylin really knows how to create characters with depth and substance.  As the reader, you will feel like you are truly taking the journey with Zeke and Julia; these characters are very relatable.

I would recommend picking up this book; you won’t regret it.

Happy Reading!

Live Smart Book Review

Live Smart
Preparing For the Future God Wants For You

Author:  Dan Dumas
Publisher:  Bethany House
Pages:  144
Audience Youth
Genre:  Christian Living

Live Smart by Dan Dumas is a must read for youth!  Mr. Dumas delivers a comprehensive read full of wisdom on topics young Christians face as they journey through this world.  Some of these topics speak about knowing the Bible, praying and serving others, working hard, amongst other topics that I believe every young Christian should know about.

Mr. Dumas writes with much wisdom, inspiration, and gets to the point.  I found it to be a quick read and it was filled with a lot of passion for guiding young Christians in their path in life.  I think parents will appreciate the care in which Mr. Dumas has written this book.

Undaunted Hope

Undaunted Hope

Author:  Jody Hedlund
Publisher:  Bethany House
Pages:  374
Audience:  Adults
Genre:  Historical Fiction

Undaunted Hope is Book 3 in Jody Hedlund’s Beacons of Hope series.  Undaunted Hope is the story of Tessa Taylor, who ventures from her hometown to Eagle Harbor, Michigan to take a position as a schoolteacher.  Tessa Taylor’s fresh start is beset by many challenges.  The chief clerk of Cole Mine, is calculating, cruel, and tries every chance he can to compromise Tessa.  However, for every dark cloud (or character) there are those that are endearing and Jody Hedlund depicts a few.  One such character is Alex Bjorklund.  Upon their first meeting, it is clear Alex and Tessa have an unrivaled chemistry (you will definitely find yourself rooting for these two throughout the story).  Other endearing characters are Ingrid and Gunnar Bjorklund, Alex’s niece and nephew.

Overall, this is a memorable novel.  While this book is part of a series, I feel that it works as a standalone book.  I really enjoyed the author’s style of writing; I was thoroughly involved in the town of Eagle Harbor.  I would recommend that you check this book and author out.

Happy Reading!
