Book Review: A Higher Calling

 A Higher Calling:
Pursuing Love, Faith, and Mount Everest

Author:  Harold Earls and Rachel Earls
Publisher:  Waterbrook
Pages:  210

This book is the true love and faith story of Harold and Rachel Earls.  This story depicts how God's hand is on each of our lives.  From the moment that Harold and Rachel meet, a faithful retelling story of their life begins.  Harold and Rachel each write with honesty, and love about their relationship and their faith in God.  Harold and Rachel talk about the challenges they faced during their first year of marriage, which included Harold's plan and dangerous adventure in climbing Mount Everest.

This book will uplift and empower you in your walk with God.  Harold and Rachel's faith is truly inspiring and I recommend that you read it.

Happy Reading!

Book Review: Alaskan Holiday

Alaskan Holiday

Author:  Debbie Macomber
Publisher:  Ballantine Books
Pages:  256
Audience:  Adults
Genre:  Fiction

Alaskan Holiday is the story of Palmer and Jose, a couple who met in Ponder, Alaska.  Josie is a chef at the local lodge that is about to close for the winter season.  Josie is set to return to Seattle, Washington where she is from.  Palmer, an Alaskan native, is distraught over losing Josie, the love of his life, and proposes to her.  Unfortunately, the proposal doesn’t have the desired outcome Palmer wishes, which sets both Palmer and Josie on a journey to what they both want.

Upon finishing this book, I was disappointed.  The story was very predictable, and the main characters weren’t as likeable as other characters I have loved and treasured in other Debbie Macomber novels.  I did enjoy Debbie Macomber’s depiction of the Alaskan lifestyle with its simplicity, complexities, and the richness of friendships in tight-knight community.

I look forward to reading other works by Debbie Macomber.  Unfortunately, Alaskan Holiday isn’t a book I would pick up again.

Happy Reading!

Book Review: Live Fearless: A Call to Power, Passion, and Purpose

Live Fearless:  A Call to Power, Passion, and Purpose

Author:  Sadie Robertson
Publisher:  Thomas Nelson Publishers
Pages:  224
Audience:  Young Adults
Genre:  Christian Living

Live Fearless by Sadie Robertson has a truly powerful message about tackling the issues of fear, worry, and anxiety.  Sadie talks about her personal issues with fear and how it has been a stumbling block in her life.  Sadie depicts a very honest picture of how her fear made her feel.

Sadie also speaks honestly about how her faith and belief in the Lord enabled her to go through the journey to overcome her fears.  Sadie gives all the glory and praise to the Lord for guiding her through this journey and encourages others to do the same.  Sadie’s faith is truly inspiring.

I recommend this book to young adults and even to adults.  Sadie’s journey in overcoming the obstacle of fear is relatable and inspirational.  Sadie’s faith walk is genuine and her clear message that the Lord is with us always, championing our struggles is very comforting and true.  Sadie is a true inspiration of faith in action.

Happy Reading!
